Spring

in our mountain home, Zones 7 & 8, is a great time to plant.

Summer

in Zones 7 & 8, is a good planting time, but plants need to be watered more frequently for the first couple of years until established and less frequently thereafter.

Autumn

In Zone 8 this is a good planting time, and in preparation one should water well the area to be planted a week before one plants, water once a week after one plants.  However, in Zone 8, above 5000 feet of elevation, the plants push new growth and thereafter freeze!

Winter

In Zone 7, elevation 3000’-5000’, it may be an acceptable planting time for “hardy stock”. Planting is ill-advised If one lives above 5000’ and you might well have to tunnel through the snow!
